Jinling Noodle Bar reviews
Added to the above review: it turns out that in addition to the main menu, quite extensive, in Chinese and English, there is an under-the-counter special extra menu, hand-written only in Chinese, which has some fine special dishes. Some of these overlap with the main menu, but some of them don't. These are excellent authentic Chinese dishes, very ample portions and very tasty---but you need to be with someone who speaks Chinese, or else you need to ask the staff to translate for you! Highly recommended.
This is a very Chinese noodle bar with also a full range of restaurant-style dishes. It is very central and convenient to get to, close to the Cambridge Guildhall; it is unpretentious and relaxed and enjoyable. The atmosphere is authentically Chinese, a bit on the basic side, but the extensive menu is quite modestly priced. I have eaten in many similar places in many parts of China. The staff are friendly and efficient, the portions are generous, all the service is bright and cheerful. This is by no means a grand set-up, but there is some adventurous cooking if you select from their more specialist range. The Jinling is just what it sets out to be; there are always many oriental young people there (students and the like) which is a good sign, the standards are reliable, the ingredients are fresh. Worth a visit!
