Thai Edge reviews

By Ajit T.

I went to this restaurant on the 15th January for my sisters birthday. Initially the service was attentive but bearing on intrusive. We ordered the banquet meals so we could all try something different. The woman serving the starters was extremely heavy handed and looked like she didn't want to be there. Then whilst cleaning up our starter plates the waiters was so clumsy leaving food on table cloth and nearly splashing my husband with sauce. No apology and this was not cleared away. Then the mains arrived and there was loads of confusion to the rice we ordered - it took three attempts n me pointing at the menu to get it right! My husband is allergic to egg and the night could have ended up in a-e. The matradee was seen drinking cocktails n ignoring the guests- she was the only one who could speak English. In addition this restaurant is extremely noisy like being In a school canteen! In summary: do not come here. There are far better Thai restaurants in Birmingham !

Thai Edge is a truly authentic Thai restaurant perfectly positioned in the modern atmosphere of Brindley Place.

The Venue
It could be said that Thai Edge has the perfect location. Sited in the restaurant area of Brindley Place, it is in very close proximity to Birmingham Rep, Symphony Hall and various other venues so it is ideal to visit before or after a show.

This area of Birmingham city centre is one of the most popular with locals and tourists alike. The canal network is the key feature here and all of the businesses in the area trade off the waterfront location, the local office workers and the buzzing nightlife.

The Atmosphere
Thai Edge is a modern restaurant with attractive decor including water features, flowers - and very smart toilets. The waiting staff dress in traditional Thai clothing and are welcoming and efficient - although they are not always fluent in English so you may need some help with particular requests or queries.

The restaurant is very busy at weekends and often caters for large parties, so it can be quite lively. On warm evenings staff are only too willing to put tables outside on request. If you are celebrating a birthday, a small but charming complimentary cake and photo is an added gesture.

The Food
Thai Edge offers all the usual cuisine from the country and boasts an extensive choice of 145 dishes for a complete Thai culinary experience. Favourites include Thai soups, curries, satays and fishcakes with varied rice and noodles, alongside more unusual dishes of steamed seabass, seafood with fresh chilli, lemon grass and various marinated chicken and pork dishes.

The Thai salads are excellent but - be warned - they are very hot. Thai Edge offers a special lunchtime menu where any starter and main course costs just £7.95 – it seems like a good deal. Lunchtime specialities include soups, spring rolls, spare ribs, stir fries, satays, and curries with a good variety of noodle and rice dishes. There is a variety of desserts on offer. The average a la carte price is £24 per person.

The Drinks
There’s an extensive wine list – a bottle of the house wine is reasonable at £10.95. A Singha or Chang beer is recommended, especially if your dish is a little spicy.

The Final Word
For an authentic taste of Thailand in beautiful surroundings, take your friends to Thai Edge - they will be impressed!
