Zizzi reviews

By Sophie R.

I adore coming here, I always come here with my boyfriend and the food is always yummy! The portions are huge as well, but there's always room for one of the delicious desserts! Love the banoffee pie!

Situated within easy walking distance of all Cardiff’s nightlife, Zizzi’s is a great venue for a celebration, no matter what the occasion.

The Venue
Zizzi’s can be found at the castle end of St Mary’s Street. It has copious amounts of dining space with the kitchen situated within full view of the customers. There is also a spacious bar area to relax with a drink, before or after your meal. There are also plenty of pubs and clubs nearby for any party to continue after the meal. It is also a good option during the daytime as they offer a good value for money set lunch menu.

The Atmosphere
Zizzi’s offers a relaxed yet sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant is intimate enough for couples to have a romantic meal but big enough for groups to enjoy more boisterous occasions. The staff are friendly and helpful without being over bearing.

The Food
The menu offers traditional Italian fare, with a huge variety of pizza and pasta dishes. The calzones, or folded pizza’s, are superb, especially the carne piccante (marinated chicken, meatballs, Bolognese sauce, mushrooms, chilli, mozerella and tomato - £8.95), which is recommended if you like a spicy dish with a kick. There is also wide selection of risottos and salads on offer. On the dessert menu, if you like sweets filled to bursting, the banana con cioccolata £4.75) is irresistible: 2 waffles with caramelised bananas, dripping in ice cream and various sauces almost makes the visit worthwhile on its own. A 3 course meal for two, with a drink each, can come in at under £40 which is very reasonable in relation to other restaurants in the area.

The Drink
The drink offering is equally impressive, with a well rounded selection of white, red and rose wines available by the glass, bottle or half bottle. Wine starts from about £14.95 a bottle. There is also a full bottled beer bar available. For the designated driver there is a full assortment of soft drinks, both hot and cold, with many different types of coffee to finish the meal with. The only down side to the drinks choice is the lack of any draught beer.

The Final Word
If you are after a quality meal, with quality service, in a nice relaxed but professional atmosphere, then Zizzi’s should be one of your first points of call in Cardiff city centre.
