visited the stags head recently with my partner and her family just got to say the food was perfect the place was spotless the staff was friendly and very helpful cant wait to go back again soon

Had a meal on Tuesday 13th March 2013 Food was great, service was great, prices were reasonable. My only gripe the dining chairs need replacing because they were the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat on and this was not just me, 6 other guests also suffered the same.

This is a pub I have taken friends to several times a year for nearly twenty years so I had good memories of the place but my last visit was a real disappointment. The food was lacklustre and when it did arrive it took nearly an hour to get the main course. When the sweet course had not arrived after thirty minutes we asked where is was, only to be told that they had forgotten all about it! I suggest people give it a miss until they get their act together.

Slow service! One hour for food to arrive! Have frites which are fries not nice smoke alarm went off because all you can smell is burning from kitchen! Won't be returning would suggest going to The Black Bull in Burton Pidsea!

Visited the Stags Head on 22/3/12 with partner being a tastecard holder meant 241 and enjoyed so much visited again on 26/3/12. Food was best home made pub food I have had which I would consider restaurant quality. Steak diane from special board was very tasty with massive homemade onions rings and hugest chips you've ever seen! Partner had homemade lasagna which was yummy. Second occasion had mixed meat sizzler with half rice/chips with sweet chilli sauce OMG its a must. Not for the faint hearted and staff very pleasant. Menu is varied, something for everyone.

We've used the Stags for many years and always found good service (especially when Greta ran it, then Phil) and great food. Ignore any review where the reviewer has only made 1 review - its usually a competitor or a sacked member of staff trying to have a dig. They are so easy to spot - and anyone who knows the place will recognise the review as a pack of lies. Ive had them too for THE TRITON - we find that our real customers know the review is unreliable and it gets people talking.

This is definitely someone with a grudge. The chef and all the staff are always clean and well presented. All the staff are polite and the service is first class. I have eaten at the Stags Head on many occasions and the food was absolutely gorgeous. I have recommended this pub to all my family and friends. They have all visited this pub and have been impressed. I have never heard any negative comments about this pub since the present staff have been there. I highly recommend The Stags Head. The current chef Andrew Cooke is very talented, as are the rest of the staff. Well done. Keep up the good work.

i have just read this review and what this person has said about the pub,food,staff and the hygien this is all totaly not true.i have been going to the stag head inn with my family for some time now and have always been treat with respect and good service,the food is always of brilliant standard.i will carry on going there with my family as to is the best pub for food and drink.well done to all staff excellent service.

We were only in Hull for 1 & half days & decided to go for a meal at lunch time & had a fantastic meal here on Saturday afternoon The staff were brilliant, the meals were all freshly cooked I would definitely recommend the all meat Sizzler it was cooked lovely, & as my wife's a Vegetarian they offered to cook a vegetarian version of a lot of meals on the menu, she opted for a vegetarian curry which she said was cooked perfectly as she asked hot & spicy We have dined at many restaurants & not one would offer you chips & rice the Stags Head did & the chips were fantastic I would thoroughly recommend this establishment for quality food, friendliness of staff & overall service Take a bow lads Thank you

I would firstly like to say that this appears to be a boycotting exercise from the reviewer. I have dined at this establishment on many occasions and find their service to be of very good quality along with the food and the experience. The staff are friendly and welcoming and there are definitely no signs of lack of personal hygiene among them. I would recommend the Stag to anyone who likes homemade food for a very reasonable price, friendly staff and a nice clean environment.

I wouldn't even give this pub one star. Poor service waiting for meals over an hour and wasn't if.they were packed we were the only ones in in chicken tasted of fish steak was vile. Chips wernt even cooked. the chef looked dirty as anything is hair thick grease n all the staff stank of bo. Which is off putting its self Definitely was an Awful experience never again.

Having had nothing but fantastic food, courteous, attentive (but not hovering) service throughout 2011 we had no 2nd thoughts on where our Wedding Breakfast should be held! We were not disappointed.Andrew and his team were most obliging with a table for 20, all ordering on arrival and no-one was disappointed. All starters, mains and desserts (for those who could squeeze one in after two previous courses) arrived together, nobody was left hanging onto knife & fork thinking "They've forgotten about me!"Varying sized steaks ranging from blue to cremated and 8oz to 20oz arrived on a well oiled conveyor belt and NOTHING from 20 covers was returned to the kitchen - it didn't need to be. Special off-menu requests were handled and supplied to the same high standard as everything else. The Bill? Including drinks? Less than anticipated.Value for money? My Fiance and I went last weekend, it was last chance saloon, we had been a couple of times a few months ago and was not that impressed. It is now under new management, food and service were second to none - excellent so would definitely go again and highly recommend the Sunday roast.

First time we've eaten here today. The food is so much better than the typical pub grub, and not much more expensive. I enjoyed the chef's special Chicken stuffed with halloumi covered in bacon which came with delicious creamy mash and amazing steamed veg and a really tasty sauce. My wife had the beef stroganoff. Hers was very tasty but the beef slightly chewy. My daughter had a huge child's helping of fish goujons with large chips. Each meal came at the same time, served nice and hot and with generous portions. To follow, I had chef's home made summer pudding (to die for!) and my wife had a huge portion of bakewell plum pudding with custard. My daughter had thick n creamy strawberry ice-cream. The staff were cheerful and very helpful....though this was 2.30pm on a Sunday afternoon. I can't imagine any lesser service on a busy period, but we'll reserve judgment on that until we see it for ourselves. With drinks for the 3 of us, our bill came to 35.00. We will definitely be returning again, and again, if these standards continue to delight us.

We have a young child and ha'vent been out together in months until last saturday night. Where else to spend it but at the place where we discovered each other. My wife and I booked tables not telling each other until hrs before hand. We didn't cancel one table until we got to the pub. Both bookings had our home number against each other, How thick are they? The bar service was great. Romance was on the cards, we was put in the middle of the restaurant, in the kitchen walk way under a large light. We had Rock music banging on while we ate. The starter came, mine was ok ish. The main came my wife's was ok, we both said that we had far too many chips, onion rings seemed dripping with fat, I had a Feta salad, it was wet through with sauce. Our choice (no wine list) was red, it was ok. I asked for our comments to be fed to the manager/owners. The lad said "i will but they will tell me to go away or not take any notice" I did ask if he said anything he said "they couldn't hear me"so2 People2 Starters2 Main courses1 Puddingdrinksno romance+over £80 =unhappythe pub is run down, ie light bulbs blown, door handles hanging off, settee dropping apart! I hope no one else has to go through this.

i've just eaten sunday lunch at the stags head inn , and i'm amazed that anyone could eve believe that they do microwave meals . Had roast sirloin of beef cooked to perfection with homemade yorkshire puddings, al dente vegetables roasts and buttered new . The service was great , best dining experience i've had for a long time . Well done stag we will be back SOON

myself and my partner visited the stags head after it was recommended to us. very nicely decorated and service was good. we both had starters and then ordered steak for our main meal. it was absolutely fantastic best meal I've had in a long time. definitely be going back soon.

Following a recommendation from a someone at work and the comments on this site we decided today to call in at the Stags Head Inn form a Sunday lunch as part of a trip to the coast. We pulled into the car-park at 1.10pm to find only a few other cars their. Not a good sign on a warm summers afternoon. We walked in thought he pool table room, past a lad in chefs clothes watching motorsport on the wide screen TV. We chose a traditional Sunday roast off the black board menu along with a couple of drinks. We had only been sat down for a couple of minute before we heard the chime of a bell from the kitchen moments before our food was placed in front of us. We had both selected a slice of beef and a slice of turkey. Both were very thin and accompanied by a Yorkshire pud, gravy, boiled new potatoes and a selection of veg in a small dish perched on the edge of our plates. The potatoes were nice but that's as good as it got. The veg in the dish were still woody and tasteless. The meat clearly had not been cooked on the premises and appeared to be the sliced type that you get at a deli counter. All of the ingredient had been brought together on a plate and then warmed up. At £6.95 a head iw ould expect a little better than this. The meat was so dry that i needed a good drink of water afterwards. The food let the place down. Once past the poor kerb appeal the interior was modern and welcoming. The vast menu and numerous black boards suggests that everything in cooked in the microwave to order. Not some where that we will be going back to. July 2010.

The Stags Head Inn in my view is a great place to eat, the food is certainly beginning to become worth your money. I have worked in the stag for over a year now, and when the current owner first took on the pub I personally saw the struggle all the staff had to go through to bring the stag back up on its feet. The previous owner left the name in taters, so many customers gave up visiting the pub and restaurant, as a result the pub was taken from that owner and closed down. When it was sold on alot of the locals I know that visit there alot now, where very worried for the new owners, for the plain reason know body wanted to visit there anymore because of the hugely over priced food and drinks, the awful food and the very poor service. Now a year and a bit on, I think the owner currently, his wife and the two head chefs have pulled it around dramatically. I regularly visit the pub on my days off to eat, and the food is amazing. Working in the kitchen I get to see the behind the scenes in a way, and I get to see how much care and time goes into the preparation of peoples food. The prices are definitely suitable and the staff (being one) are all very pleasant and in all my time of working there I've only seen about 10, if that, complaints. In 14 months. Surely that says something about the pub? Also a new menu has just been set, and it is just as good if not better than the old one. Now you as a customer have a choice of a smaller portion, if you have visited before you would have noticed how massive the portions are! I would highly recommend anyone to visit the Stags Head Inn, it is a great pub with an amazing layout and beautiful surroundings, the atmosphere is also lovely, most customers have always said how relaxing it is to dine at the stag. But of course if you do not wish to sit in, the pub has just opened a take out service, with an also amazing menu, all you have to do is ring up, collect your food and sit and relax at home. I strongly recommend you visit.

Visited this pub on the 4th of August 2008. Ordered 5 meals in the bar and ordered drinks. Was told by barmaid I could add drinks to final bill so did'nt pay immediately. Big mistake. After about 20 mins waiting the barman advised us that the order of salmon was'nt availiable and asked us to choose something else. Then he disappeared. A further half hour later the meals arrived and we discovered that our childrens order of fish fingers was actually fish goujons in batter so they were wasted, the chips were spicy, again wasted so my youngest had just peas. At a cost of £5.50 I found this expensive for a childs meal but being typically british....I did'nt complain. The biggest shock came when I saw the till reciept for the drinks, only one of us had been drinking alcohol, speckled hen bitter, at £2.50 a pint £1.30 a half, not too bad but because I was driving I had cola, not a well known brand either, Which was £2.50 a pint from a mixer on the bar. The kids had half pint measures of the same and I was charged £1.50 each, £3.00 per pint. So beware there are no prices advertised around the bar and it'll cost you a fortune if you have kids.
