Cradock Arms reviews

By Dean C.

Flustered and hapless staff leave a bad taste as we are told we 'can't order food for 20 min because the kitchen said so'. Disorganized, flaky and apathetic are apparently the main dishes for Sunday roast at this pub.

What a shame that someone feels the need to have a personal go at the locals. I have visited this pub on quite a few occasions and have to speak as i find. Always friendly, the food is enough for those of us who eat sensible portions. At this point I am salivating at the pate on a slate...cant get enough of it. As for the gentlemen Adrian and Rob, I have met them each time I have been and have found them funny and endearing - if you actually take time to get to know them they may buy you a drink, they did us!! I am sure that sometimes the staff don't get it right, as is the way when you are a popular busy pub - but when they do its blummin' spot on. Come on people, its not a job I would like to do, so cut everyone a bit of slack - go try the food yourself, its yummy. As for the cost - having been used to London prices in top 5 star hotels, this is cheap!

I don't know who you are, but please do not put stupid childish reviews on this site. The food has had fantastic feed back regularly serving over 160 people. We have never had a complaint about the price as the people that eat here appreciate that everything is fresh and of the highest quality. The pub has just been fitted with a brand new heating system which is state of the art and works very well. The staff are all happy people and enjoy working as a team. As for Rob and Adey, I can only thank them both for the support and help they've given us since we started. We and our staff love them both and think the world of them. It's a shame people have to be so spiteful and mindless. The general feed back from all our locals is great, and overall everyone is delighted to have the Cradock back on the map. Your views are noted but please don't come again !!

@ Gwenclarinet.... My family and I have frequented the Cradock Arms over the last 12 Months and could not disagree with you more, I have found the food to be restaurant quality at pub prices, the service is 1st class with a great selection of beers and wines. the atmosphere created by Leah,Jonny and staff has made this pub the heart of the community. along with the regular clientele people travel from afar to experience the delight that is the "Crad". Well done guys keep up the good work!

Please do not be put off by the last review. The three ladies were handled in a polite manner and when they mentioned that whilst the food was lovely but slightly small portions, my wife took this on board and the portions are now larger. The side salad was given free of charge and when my wife pointed this out the ladies said that had they been aware of that at the time, their opinion would have changed due to that gesture.Side salads are now included. I would also like to point out that one of the ladies had Fish and chips and rated her meal 9 1/2 out of 10.What a shame this wasn't mentioned!!. I'm sorry they felt the need to write such a harsh and damaging review. However I respect their decision not to visit us again but would like to add that any feed back-good or bad is always taken on board. We've done a fantastic job in turning this business around and are proud of our staff and our achievements to date. Overall the feed back is very encouraging from our local clientele and any support is much appreciated.

Basic pub food at extortionate restaurant prices. Really disappointed when recently went for a meal here. The food portions were miserly and really poor value for money -£9 for a tiny Lasagne which came without salad and not great garlic bread. The staff were quite unfriendly and didn't seem to think that it was a problem that they mixed the vegetarian and meat lasagnes up. They virtually threw a complimentary salad at us which we didn't realise was complimentary at the time as we'd asked for it to supplement our meal. When asked at the end of our meal whether everything was OK I said not really and explained why (Mixed meals and how blase staff were about that, small portions, no veg/salad)-we were initially ignored. It was only when another member of staff who came out with bad attitude because she thought we'd accused her of bad attitude (we didn't actually say that) that it became apparent that the salad was complimentary (Manager thinking on her feet??realising this wasn't to just be swept under carpet). To me it was far too little too late. I will not be visiting there again whilst the current management and staff are running the place.

Food too hot! I have had two veg meals here and they were both 'lava' hot. My fellow diners had finished their meals before I could start mine, which isn't good. Food bland and service hit and miss. They seem unable to cope with the volume of people and always get the bill wrong.

We only recently started to visit the Cradock Arms, what a delight! good ale and wine, friendly staff and good ambiance, with real fires. Now for the main attraction ,Head Chef David and his wife Donna have revitalised the menu and we have enjoyed Sunday lunches and Evening Meals with friends and family who have all been impressed by the variety, quality and presentation of dishes that are far and away much more than "pub grub". This is restaurant quality food at pub prices! The choices are varied and will appeal to all tastes, including specials of the day. Chef David is happy to cook meat how you like it from rare to well done, just ask. The Craddock Arms is fortunate to have such good team players on their staff,I hope to enjoy many more visits before someone might decide to poach their star players. Give the revitalised Cradock Arms a try, you will not be disappointed. ps. I don't work for Everards, and I'm not a relative of the Landlords family, I just like to see hard work and initiative achieve their rewards. Monsieur Rose.

I have to agree.. The Cradock is now such a better place than the previous 'miserable' land lord!! Only 1 tiny complaint... The bar is tooo cramped with all sitting at it and gets rather frustrating having to ask to be able to get to it for a drink, but all in all, were back to being regulars :)

I am sorry to see the previous review but the landlord has now been replaced and under new management Cradock Arms is back to its former glory - even better. My wife and I have been enjoying Sunday lunch over a number of years and this Sunday's meal surpassed them all. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food excellent and the staff courteous and competent. If you have been put off in the past, give them another chance - they deserve it. Well done Cradock Arms.

I have been going to the Craddock off and on for over 30 years I think the biggest problem is the landlord, I just don't think he enjoys his job which is a shame because a lot of money has been injected into this pub. This bad attitude can effect the staff and sometimes this been observed. I have seen the landlord in question refuse to serve someone because he overheard them swear, Im not condoning swearing in public places but this is a pub and it was overheard. I think saying to customers "I've had enough of this" and decides to close early, 10.30pm this is not good for business. I know running a pub is very hard work and very stressful, but this should not be seen by the customer. Apart from that it has a good atmosphere but it could be a lot better with the right leadership, look at The Crows Nest, not my choice of pub but that has been turned around.

The food is OK. The Beer was excellent when they first opened but has lacked consistency ever since. The surroundings are nice with a nice garden. The staff are good on the bar but leave much to be desired when waiting tables.

April 2010:- The Craddock Arms has recently had a 110K refit, including some wonderful garden furniture. Had (an evening) meal there a week ago and was very impressed. The food was excellent, the quantity was more than enough (you will need to be hungry when you get there!), the staff/service was very good and the price was very, very good! Their home made chips (and ice-cream) were wonderful and their chocoate fudge cake (according to my daughter) was "the best I've ever tasted!" - We will be going back for more!
