De Montfort Hall reviews

By Philip D.

Very badly run. Buying tickets is a nightmare. Summer Sundae music festival was great but it's not happening in 2013. The dead hand of the City Council produces an endless schedule of middle of the road, undemanding shows. A great shame there isn't much more. Once it housed cutting edge rock and unexpected jazz, world and indie music. Not any more. However, the classical music is still outstanding ie the Philharmonia Orchestra, but that has fewer and fewer concerts each year. A superb Edwardian organ too means there are quality organ recitals. No catering and horrible toilets. Leicester City Council have done their best to ruin this OK Edwardian venue.

De Montfort Hall still attracts big names, as the performers enjoy the fact that they can chat to the audience, man to man - something they can't do at the huge arenas...

They need to review the way they handle admittance to the venue. I (along with a dozen other people who were there before me) queued from 3pm to see Keane. Having never visited the hall before I was unaware that, once inside the venue, the queue would be split into two (left and right). Subsequently once the doors opened (both sides at once) I found myself on the second row! I understand you are not 'entitled' to a place of your choosing. But for heavens sake, to queue for 4 hours, be 16th in the queue and then to have people who turned up at 6pm find a spot on the front row is infuriating!
