Head to the Museum of Childhood to explore the history of birthday parties and see how they have developed over the years. Its My Party at Museum of Childhood We all have birthdays, but how we mark our special day is very personal. Whether you don’t acknowledge them, invite a few friends over or throw a tremendous themed party, It’s My Party at Museum of Chidlhood explores children’s birthday parties from the viewpoints of the children and the adults. Is bigger better? Over the years, children’s parties have become more extravagant, more astonishing and certainly more costly. Using interviews with children and their parents and carers about their own birthday experiences, the exhibition offers visitors alternative suggestions for birthday celebrations that would suit both party animals and those who prefer to evade the limelight. Wilfred’s Party Both children and adults will love the interactive story telling of Wilfred, a shy resident of the museum. Wilfred doesn’t want to celebrate his birthday, but soon regrets his decision when he finds himself all alone with a single cupcake. The story does have a happy ending, as Wilfred’s friend’s surprise him with a birthday party he’ll never forget, filled with a lavish feast and gifts that money can’t buy. You’re invited to Wilfred’s party! The Wilfred’s Party installation includes a wonderful table filled with delicious party food made by the children at Rushmore Primary School and St John’s Primary, in artist-led sessions. The party guests have been created by invited artists based on interpretations of their favourite characters in the Museum’s collections. Its My Party at Museum of Childhood takes place from Saturday 20th September 2014 – Sunday 5th July 2015 from 10am to 5.45pm. Admission is free for all.
