Celebrating all the colour and new life at the Royal Botanical Gardens, the orchids exhibition at Kew Gardens is an exotic feast for the senses. The display in the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew include thousands of orchids and tropical flowers such as bromeliads and anthuriums. Orchids exhibition at Kew Gardens The orchids exhibition at Kew Gardens presents visitors with a riot of colour, with literally thousands of exotic flowers on show in the Princess of Wales Conservatory. Appealing to all ages, see the orchids, bromeliads, anthuriums and other vibrant specimens from around the world while they are on display and still in full bloom. Exhibition highlights The theme for this year is centered around the stunning colours of orchids and the centrepiece of this tropical extravaganza exhibition at the Royal Botanical Gardens is the ultraviolet lighting in the Princess of Wales Film Room will reveal the hidden marks on some species. These markings are designed to trick insects into thinking they are encountering a different plant altogether. Colour, shape and smell play a vital role in ensuring the survival of the orchid family, making them one of the most successful and diverse plant families on Earth. Special events A number of special events are taking place alongside the orchids exhibition at Kew Gardens, including behind the scenes tours of the orchid nursery and tropical nursery, as well as expert advice on growing your own orchids. Take a nursery tour with one of the experts, or take part in a Q&A with the horticultural staff afterwards. There is even the chance to sign up for a orchids for beginners course, where you can grow these beautiful plants in your own home. The orchids exhibition at Kew Gardens is open from 9.30am - 5pm, Saturday 7th February - Sunday 8th March 2015.
