A Royal Wedding Cake exhibition takes place in April just in time for the first royal wedding of the year

A Royal Wedding Cake exhibition takes place in April just in time for the first royal wedding of the year. Celebrating the long and elaborate history of royal weddings and their cakes throughout the ages, this is your chance to experience a little regal cake making and even get to nibble on a piece or two. Royal Wedding Cake exhibition Bringing you the very best in the history of cake making, the Royal Wedding Cake exhibition invites commoners to sample the delights of royal cakes with a fully interactive show. Launched by the creative butter sculptor and masterchef Simon Smith and food historian Professor Roland Rotherham, the exhibition Let Them Eat Cake charts royal wedding cakes from William the Conqueror to the current Prince William. Exhibition highlights For fans of cake and art, look no further than this cake-baed art show. Visitors can expect to see such sugary delights as the recreation of a nine foot high cake made for Princess Louise's marriage in 1871 made by Ian Wilson, a replica of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's wedding cake by Dawn Gemmell, and Buckingham Palace made from sugar by Helen Pennels, which graced the top of Queen Elizabeth II's wedding cake. Get baking Not only can you expect to see several cakes made by professional bakers on show at the exhibition, but there is also the chance for you to have your very own royal wedding cake included too. Sponsored by Tate and Lyle Royal Icing Sugar, the We Love Baking competition is inviting you to create your very own design for the soon to be married royal couple, which could end up in pride of place at the show. So even if you've never so much as sifted icing sugar into a bowl, this is your chance to get baking for royalty and create a masterpiece in sugar for Kate Middleton and Prince Wiliam. Interactive exhibition As with all good food related exhibitions, there will of course be the chance to sample some of the wares at the Royal Wedding Cake exhibition, with a piece of wedding cake for you to munch on as you peruse the baked artefacts. And for anyone who wants to get even more hands on, you can take part in a series of extra curricular cake-themed events such as lessons in how to work with Royal Icing. The Royal Wedding Cake exhibition takes place from Friday 22nd April - Monday 25th April 2011 at Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner. Entrance is free.
