Traditional market Located between the Waterloo Bridge and The London Eye along Queen's Walk, the South Bank Christmas market is setting up camp for the seventh year in 2014. Regardless of whether you are on your way home from work, heading to a Christmas show at the Royal Festival Hall or making a special trip into London for the weekend, the Traditional Christmas Market at Southbank Centre promises to get you feeling festive in no time with handmade gifts and warming food and drink. Christmas shopping If you're searching for unusual Christmas presents for your loved ones and high street shops are falling a little short, a visit to the Traditional Christmas Market at Southbank Centre might solve all your problems. The 80 wooden chalets lining the banks of the Thames stock everything from amber and silver jewellery, Christmas tree ornaments and hand tatted lace to wooden toys, handmade soap and ceramics. Food and drink As well as all of the gift stalls, a variety of German food and drink is also available at the South Bank Christmas market. Feast on bratwurst sausage, gingerbread hearts, roasted almonds or a warm crepe, all washed down with a glass of Glühwein, a German style mulled wine. The carousel For many children, the highlight of their visit to the Traditional Christmas Market at Southbank Centre will be a ride on the carousel. Parents can take their kids on the merry-go-round and wave to their little ones as they gallop past the wooden chalets, against the backdrop of the River Thames and the Houses of Parliament. Christmas along the South Bank In addition to the traditional German style market, there are a number of other markets and seasonal events taking place along the South Bank over Christmas 2014. Foodies can look forward to the chocolate festival and Real Food Christmas Market, while music fans can enjoy a special rendition of Handel's Messiah at the Royal Festival Hall, as well as other festive concerts and shows.
