Strangled 18

Director. Arpad Sopsits

In the aftermath of the failed 1956 Hungarian uprising, a female worker at a shoe factory in Martfu is murdered on her way home. Local man Akos Reti, who was spurned by the victim, confesses to the crime with some forceful persuasion from the police and he is sentenced to 25 years behind bars. Seven years later, while Reti languishes in prison, a spate of similar killings grips Martfu. Lead police investigator Bota and ambitious young prosecutor Szirmai realise the wrong man is in prison.
