Sadly after the terroist attack in the early 90's the main trading floor of the Baltic exchange was never to return.
The heritage authority promised that the "Baltic" would be returned to its former glory along with the trading floor.
However no matter what plan the Baltic board produced the heritgae group declined them. As a result we now have an insurance companies building in the same site and, as said, the trading floor has gone.
A great shame because there is now no market atmosphere, no trading floor and no brokers doing the biz! just on the phones from their offices and in cyber land.
The shipping fraternity are partly to blame because they did not make enough fuss when it became clear tha the Baltic was not going to be replaced, and were content to see their main tading building be made over to the insurance companies.
The old Baltic is greatly missed and many brokers look back on the trading floor days with great affection.
