Be At One reviews

By Judy J.

An unusual location for a vibrant cocktail bar, Be At One Hammersmith fills a small but necessary gap in the area’s nightlife scene.

The Venue
Like many of London’s Be At One venues, the Hammersmith branch is a slim bar that doesn’t exactly grab you from the outside; blink and you’ll miss it with its narrow front that’s a stone’s throw from the bustling underground station. Step inside, however, and you’ll see that looks can be deceiving, as an impressive, glowing bar stretches out in front of you together with a lot of seating space and, should the night take you, a bit of room for a dance… so long as it’s not too crowded.

The Atmosphere
Low lighting and dark furniture add to the intimate feel of the cosy space, but this is not somewhere you would come on a Friday night for a quiet tipple - through the week however, you’ll be able to hear each other speak. As with its sister venues that have made their name around London, Be At One Hammersmith is the place to go when you want the atmosphere of a friendly pub with the expertise of a cocktail bar. Here you’ll find attentive bar staff who are having as good a time as their customers while throwing a few cocktail shapes and glass tosses to keep you entertained. Your fellow drinkers are generally young professionals - the after work crowd - and less touristy than some of the more central branches.

The Drink
As is its USP, Be At One knows how to make a good cocktail with a little flair in performance thrown in for good measure. The happy hour here is well used, with 2-for-1 cocktails from 5pm-8pm every night except Sunday, when the happiness stays put until midnight – you can’t say fairer than that. Prices aren’t bad for the capital at around £6 or £7 a pop at full price, and the extensive cocktail list is enough to impress any seasoned drinker. From the greatest classics to quirkier concoctions such as the Irish Disco Biscuit (Baileys, Oreo cookies, green crème de menthe and vanilla ice cream), you’re bound to feel the need to taste as much of the menu as you can – and you should. Just the right side of strong, full of flavour and all served with a smile, the drinks at Be At One are nearing the best you’ll find on the cocktail scene; you might even get an odd look if you opt for one of the wines, beers or spirits on offer instead of trying something new.

The Last Word
A great hideout for Hammersmith that mixes an intimate but friendly vibe with flawless cocktails, this Be At One branch keeps the chain’s glowing reputation intact.

We were recommended this bar by a friend, but when we turned up for an after work drink (it was quite late we had been working to a heavy deadline) we were told we had obviously had too much to drink (we were sober) and when we protested the bald headed bouncer decided to let some 16 year old girls in instead. Claiming he knew his profession and if we'd known ours we would understand. We're in our 30's (32, 32 and 31) All professionals..but I suppose quite old compared to the underage girls he let in, still felt quite insulted. Will be taking the 100 strong work bash we were planning to have their elsewhere.

Not enough seating and all too many 'reserved' tables preventing normal punters from sitting. I have been twice. Coctails are very good, prices excellent especially at happy hour but even when nobody else in the place was told tables reserved. I leave before having time to really let my hair down.

A welcome additon to the Hammersmith area.Having lived here for a few years, I was desparing of places to have a good drink. I actually used to travel to Battersea to get a decent drink in the Be@One there. Then the gods of cocktails answered my parayers, and we now have our very own Be@One here in W6. Wonderful.
