Go see Gilles Peterson at Cargo! I think he still does the last Thursday of every month at Cargo! Wherever he is you should find him.

Don't book here

One of the worst nights in my life...
We booked a table for 15 people in this place for a birthday.
We arrived quite early, at 6:30pm, but they had forgotten to reserve a table for us.
They settled us temporarily at a table and after 3 hours a manager came to us “asking” (he started to shout in a nervous way) to move us to another place because that table was “reserved” (exactly the same kind of reservation that we had made). They moved us to a table outside, where we had to spend the rest of the night at 0 degrees and just a couple of heaters for all of us.

Apart from this, the quality of the service of this place is unacceptable.
At the bar you can just choose between three quite expensive beers (5-6 pounds), even before the night club time started, which has nothing to do with the prices that you can see on their website.
The staff in general is very rude. In addition, the security of the venue is not so good. Every hour came out someone bleeding due to fights between drunk animals.

I really advise you absolutely not to book at Cargo for any kind of celebration, if you don't want them to spoil your night.

I go to cargo quite a bit. Saturday night We had a friend birthday party. I don't think they deserve as many bad comments as they get. So the drinks are pricey.. ........ thats not just Cargo- thats London.

By Walter W.

Well, me and the lads used to love Cargo. Got to say it's slipped a bit in our eyes, but you'll always find it open and up for a late night so you can't go too wrong I guess.

By Thiago B.

the worst evening ever,i went there on saturday with 2 friends, all smart dressed,we where in front of the queue,we all had id,as they saw me pulling my credit card out to pay for the entry,i was asked to wait outside as they wanted to have a word, then this polish looking guy holding the guest list told me we were only allowed inside if we get a table, and would cost 100 pounds per head......serious?? went to barrio east instead and spent double

Was at cargo on the weekend had made booking for table so we could have food at the start of our night. We ordered some platters which came prompt on our arrival to the table. One of my guests was not happy being told she needed to book her bag into the cloakroom as bags go missing when left unattended

By Steph J.

At cargo... the night did not start great as I was told I had to put my bag in the cloak room, when I didn't want to.. so after 10min discussion with a female bouncer I finally booked it in, she did explain that there are a lot of thefts hence why they encourage the use of the cloak room to be honest I thought they were pulling a fast one. Overall good night I just make sure in future I don't bring a large bag with me next time

Great Live gig on Thursday with jack Garrett was the best night ever, well worth being tired the next day at work. HAppy Hour till 8pm on the week days too

Went to Cargo on Friday was having a great night until they refused to serve me alcohol! It was so annoying because I was not even drunk. So left and went somewhere else to finish enjoying my night!

Went to Cargo for a friends birthday on Saturday! Music was great, good night! Only issue we had to queue for ages

By Cain A.

Did not get much time inside the club as the door staff we're refusing to let in our friend despite him having a valid ID. The manager was rude and aggressive refused to refund us despite the fact we had been in there for 1 minute only. They then lied and said our friend had not come with us and refused to check video. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME/ MONEY here

We Choose to go to cargo for two of my friends 25th birthdays, their was a group of seven girls which paid £15 in advance to get in. The club is very vibey and has a great atmosphere inside and out. One of my Friends got lost in the club and thought we had left so exited out the front door to then realise we where still inside. The door staff would not let her back in even thou we had proof of her purchasing a ticket. We spent £105 on tickets and at least £100 plus on alcohol to only spend an hour in the club.Due to our friend not being aloud back in we all decided to do the decent thing and make sure she was safe and left the club. The door staff where apalling and clearly wanted people out so they could filter the ques down out the front. It seems from this review site that this is a regular occurrence. We are from Brighton and have never been treated like this in our home town, not only did they ruin 2 of my friends birthdays we wasted a lot of money and struggled to Get home. I asked to speak to a manager which I was told that their wasn't one. So this is a message to the manager as I'm sure their is one, you need to give you staff customer service training as they are giving your club a bad reputation!!!!!

By Chloe Pearl R.

Well where do I start with Cargo, 1. The security think they are Gods at the door and are extremely rude aggressive and are quick to let drug users inside. They wouldn't go to get my friend who was inside alone and in a very vulnerable state. I then had no choice but to find a cab firm after an hour, leave my friend and travel alone. This is the only club i will NEVER go to again! I will be telling everyone about this night of hell! I pray that none of the staffs family members are put in this situation. I hope they sleep well at night.

By Denise J.

never been treated so badly by security. Horrible. that shouldn't be allowed. none of the staff cares about their guests. beer is a 5er severed in a can. 3.8% carlsberg warm is a rip off. so rude they put me off from going back.

By Winifred S.

I would like to rate Cargo 0, thats how bad it was. Staff was extremely rude and insensitive to me and other guests/customers. Took no consideration to the customers' situation. And when the manager was questioned by me his response would have landed him a slap if he didnt walk away. Dont appreciate the unessecary rude and inpolite security either. Avoid Cargo if you dont like rude customer service, because you will surely leave aggrevated and unwelcomed! Avoid!

By Rrrrrrrrr H.

Had guestlist for 20 people, door woman wouldn't let us in unless we paid her £1700 in advance for table. We arranged this night with them by email a month in advance. Idiots! we left and spent more than that in The Shoreditch Pub and had an amazing night. Believe the reviews, place is living on previous reputation, rude aggressive door staff, idiot manager with delusions of grandure , this place will be shut soon soon unless they sack him and change the door staff! Avoid at all costs and go somewhere that wants your business.

The outdoor decking & bar is amazing in the summer when the weathers great and the bbq's going. If you're into house music etc and like the Ibiza vibe you'll like it here. Most people seem overly happy, if you get my drift. The crowd is generally quite young (18-22ish) and male to female ratios are equal. Lots of girls going for the casual glamorous look, especially if you opt to go on a bank holiday Sunday, sporting denim hotpants, fake tan & eyelashes. Drinks are extremely pricey as I expect they sell more water than alcohol.

By Paul C.

Rip-off drinks and a rude manager. The music wasn't great and I didn't like the atmosphere in general.

By Nola S.

Cargo was pretty cool, I like the music and I LOVED the terrace/smoking area… The only thing was a strange Chinese guy kept trying to dance with me and he wouldn’t take no for an answer!

By Dominique J.

I love Cargo, it’s so big you can wander round and lose yourself in different atmospheres. The music is always really cool when I’ve visited, and unlike other London clubs there doesn’t seem to be any cliques. There are office boys mingling with trendy types and everyone seems to be getting along. I really like Cargo x

By Arnie A.

Cargo is a proper old-skool club! You can stick your swanky West End venues, this is what nightclubs are meant to be like! Dark and rustic none of this bling nonsense! And they even run a MEAN lunch menu during the day too! If you haven’t been to Cargo, you’ve missed out!

By Tori J.

The drunk Essex crowd have changed Cargo for me. But it's still good to know it's there as a fall back option I guess. And they do still bring in some good live music acts so I keep an eye out and hope the door policy may get stricter!

By Max K.

Love the outside area at Cargo, and to be honest, it's where I spend most of my time when I head there. Get there early, grab some food and then settle in for a legendary Cargo all nighter. Recommended.

I used to love going to Cargo because it was one of the few East London clubs where we could find top 40's/hip hop music (in the smaller room). Now the music in the club seems to be entirely electronic. I am driven to write this review not because of the change of music but because tonight I specifically asked the doorman what music was on in that smaller room and he claimed that it was the usual top 40's/hip hop. We paid £15 instead of the £10 cover that we were used to paying, only to find that the doorman was lying and there was no music at all in that room and there is no such music in the entire club. On leaving the club i pointed this out to him, hoping to get my money back and he claimed he was unaware about the change in music. I am very dismayed about being deceived like this at what was once one of my favorite London clubs. I will not be returning and I do not recommend going there.

By Nick G.

Had a brilliant night on Saturday. Door staff overbearing but good music and a good vibe. Drinks expensive but... I suppose those are nightclub prices.

By S S.

Cargo bar should be in the 'I saw you coming' sketch in Harry and Paul show. £15 entrance. £7 per shot. £9 for a single mixer drink. £100 notes will not go far in this place. And for this price you get to drink out of plastic glasses, sit at dirty tables and smell the most disgusting toilets I have ever seen. AVOID AVOID.

By Katie G.

I would give it an empty ? . 5-6 years ago it was a completely different story. I do not know what happened but Im certain the team has changed since then. It all starts with their precious door girl and security guys. If you are over 25 and have some taste avoid Cargo. It is smelly and expensive. It really is a shame.

By Alex A.

I went to this club a number of times- and must say, that it is OK in summer time. Otherwise, forget it. It is dirty, smelly and expensive. I just wonder why it costs so much admission. To smell the shite?

By Bazzz M.

All you need to know. 1. £ 10 entrance. 2. 20min wait plus £2 to check a coat. 3. If you don't check your coat the staff will try to "steal" your coat if you dare put it down. 4. Staff will not allow you to pass to the dancfloor with a coat. 5. You are expected to wait in same 20min queue to get your coat returned. 6. Place is average once you have appeased the staff. This is a horrible bar, with horrible staff. DO NOT RUIN YOUR NIGHT GOING HERE. The miserable girl "stealing" coats is the worst of the bunch. Terrible attitude.

By Jack B.

This is a good club but the only problem is the door staff. They are some of the most unreasonable door staff I have ever seen in London. I paid to get in this club and when I needed to get more money out, the door staff refused to let me leave and come back in without paying again. The promoters are very friendly and understanding and door staff are too but there are some who think they can abuse loyal customers. The guy who works near the reception where you pay to get in is the worst. He has a beard and a moustache and gives you a chill when you enter the club. He has a threatening behaviour about himself which lets the club down. You want to feel safe within a central club environment but this guy makes threatens people and it generally feels like he is the head of some mafia run firm. I will not be returning to this place for this reason alone. It is a shame considering the people who attend this club generally seem cool.

If you have ever considered to book a table with Cargo please do not do so! Its a waist! I have paid £150 for a table recently. This should have included q jump, a table for up to 5 people, table service, a bottle of spirit and mixers. After having to queue for around 2hrs. (baring in mind that me and my friends had also bought tickets for the event) I had to wait for another hr for the table. I was given the bottle of spirit and mixers but not even any cups with that. There was no table service and the area was not even reserved so when me and my friends returned to the table from the dance floor other people had taken the space. This is most expensive bottle of vodka I have ever paid for. Basically I paid for a service and did not receive it. The bouncers were extremely rude and when asking why I was not able to q jump they told me that it was one in one out. How is this even possible when we have tickets. This also means the club was oversold. I have send numerous emails to Cargo about this but have not received any response. I feel no one should ever be treated this way so please anyone who bought a ticket for this event don't expect to q jump and if you do end up booking a table good luck with that!

By Freya P.

Very disappointing night. Very rude door and reception staff, and after queuing for a while, being marched through like cattle and then paying the entry fee (£10 for a bar!) we straight away realised we'd left something behind. I spoke to the girl on reception, who told me we would have to pay again when we came back. What? Twice the price for an already overpriced bar?! I asked her to understand and either refund us, or simply allow us re-entry when we came back, (it's not like we had been in therefor an hour, we had just walked through the doors) and she repeated that it would be another £10 each. We asked to speak to the Manager thinking he would understand and want to help, but he merely shaprly told us to pay again, and then disappeared quickly. My night was completely ruined, and after staying for drink, (an over priced, badly made gin and tonic), we left. I do not reccommend this place to anyone.

By Tel S.

I am not saying it was a terrible night at Cargo but there are dozens of better places just in the area and at half the price. £5 for a tin of beer is surely extortionate and £8.50 for a vodka and lemonade, these kind of prices are acceptable in the west end where they have high rents and rates but Cargo is in a train arch on a side street in Shoreditch so surely these prices are dispraportionate. Another issue was the guest list, we were told when we booked the guest list that as long as we wer in the queue by 10 PM and ticked off on the list we would not be charged to get in however two of our group of 20 got held up by one of the bouncers who was trying to chat one of the up! they didn't make to to through the doors until 10.01 and were then told they would have to pay £10 to get in, the door staff were comepletely unreasonable and wouldn't listen to common sense they were to busy making sure they got their £20 entrance fee (like they aren't earning enough from the bar!!). The woman who was looking after the guest list was no help and lacked any kind of character or sense of humour, in fact she was pretty robotic. I agree with previous posts Cargo does have a good sound system although I wouldn't say it was the best crowd there were way to many city boys who wouldn't have been out of place in an 80's wine bar. I would never set foot in Cargo again feel considering the with 20 people in there who all spent a minimun of £100 each we were treated terribly and I wouldn't give them my money again.

By Maddie B.

actually I do think it deserves a bad review, as there are many places in LOndon to go, without the attitude over pricing, it felt to me at though they thought of themselves as a super club, giving them the right to be arrogant , expensive and frankly a bit rubbish, £9.50 for a margarhita that was sent back twice and insted of making a fresh they made the worse mistake in trying to adjust the flavour by adding lime cordial, as they had run out of limes!!!! Securiety we hostile and actually aggrevating people and being rude, most of us are adults and dont appreciate being treated like a drunk teenager! One of the worse night eva, I live in London and understand that it can be very expensive, but generally you get what you pay for meaning a £9.50 cocktail should at least be a decent one! not here dont waste your money or time, personally I would never go again and only send someone there is if didnt like them!
