Fox at Connaught reviews

By Andrew M.

Fox @ Connaught is a smashing little place to have dinner. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. It is a good place to bring guests over and know that they will do a decent meal. Fox @ Connaught is a good reliable restaurant.

The Fox at the Connaught is a lovely little place - the staff are really nice and made us feel very welcome indeed. The pint of Guiness I had was exceptional which is the primary reason why I am writing this review. The Fox certinly made a good impression on me.

Staying at a nearby hotel, we decided to have dinner at this pub. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Two of us had beautifully cooked haddock and the other cumberland sausages. The desserts, jam roly poly, ice cream crush with merangue and raspberry and cherry flan, it exceeded all our expectations and the service was exceptional. Each of these staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Whilst waiting for our order, we watched a member of staff polishing the cutlery and glasses (the sort of thing that you would see in a five star hotel). The whole place was lovely and clean, the atmosphere was most welcoming. When we left the security man gave us a lovely smile and thanked us for our custom. Although I live in Sussex I shall recommend this place to all my colleagues who regularly use the city airport.

I stay at the Ramada Hotel regularly on business and found the Fox @ Connaught a few weeks ago and it has now become my regular I don't think I would go anywhere else to eat and chill after a day at work! It has made my stay away from home in the week more tolerable and I don't feel awkward going in there as a single woman either, the staff are so friendly, service great, new menus are superb. If I lived closer I would make it my regular!!

I recently treated my family for a Sunday dinner and was overwhelmed by the friendly staff and prompt service. With plenty of on site parking and a play area for the kids I was can honestly say it was the most relaxed day we have had in a long time! The food fairly priced, fast and fresh and it was a nice change to see such a variety on the menu! I think we have definately found our new local! Mary

Fox at Connaught is the closest thing to a neighbourhood boozer in this postcode, which is a refreshing break from the norm in an area that is often accused of having no soul.

The Atmosphere
In what appears to be an historic building, the Fox at Connaught provides a touch of authenticity that makes it stand out from its corporate neighbours. Sure it’s a bit dirty, but it appears to be well loved and the patrons look like they live in the area as opposed to the usual travelling business types that populate the local hotel bars. There is nothing remarkable about the interior other than the well-spaced plasma screens connected to Sky Sports. A couple of VLTs sit in the corner if you're feeling lucky.

The Food
The menu at Fox at Connaught is small but offers enough to fill a hunger void. Antipasti for two is a nice touch at just under £7 with olives, mozzarella, ham and aioli with organic bread. Otherwise, you have reasonably priced burgers, club sandwiches and nachos. On Sundays they offer a three course lunch for just £9.95.

The Drink
There’s a decent selection of beers on tap including Strongbow and Kronenbourg Blanc. For lager fans the San Miguel draught is a refreshing option at just over £3 a pint. A lengthy list of cocktails for a fiver present more options and there is a limited selection of spirits or wines by glass or bottle, although it’s doubtful they sell much Veuve Cliquot at £50 a bottle, although you never know.

The Last Word
Given the paucity of residents in this stretch of the Thames, Fox at Connaught is surprisingly homely. A local boozer for those who call this patch home.
