Il Piccolo Diavolo reviews

By Siobhan B.

My friend and I decided to pop in last minute to Il Piccolo Diavolo last night and what a treat! From the minute we stepped inside the door we were made to feel extremely welcome. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. We sent back a bottle of wine as we did not like it but they immediately suggested another bottle which was really good. The food was amazing! I have always been a Pappagones fan...but I can honestly say that while the lively atmosphere and friendly staff at Pappagones make it a nice place to go...the food at Il Piccolo takes it to another level. So...what did we have? We started with a lovely dish of olives and mushrooms while we waited for our starter of calamari, which was served with a really delicious tartare sauce and a sweet chilli dip. The calamari was very fresh, lightly crumbed and cooked perfectly. For mains we had pizza inferno which had blue cheese and a delicious italian sausage as well as chilli and peppers. We also had a pasta dish with king prawns. This was no ordinary pasta, as it was hand made egg pasts. Sublime... My mouth is watering again as I write this review...I honestly can't even identify which part of the meal was my favourite. Stroud Green Road has many lovely restaurants to eat at but our new discovery of Il Piccolo Diavolo on Crouch Hill is now my favourite. You'll notice that there is no mention of desert above but that's because we are not desert lovers. I can vouch for the high quality of the deserts however however as the table sitting behind me all had a range of enticing deserts and commented that they were all fantastic! A really lovely dining experience- I can't wait to return!

As a long-time lover of fresh, authentic and delicious Italian home cooking I have frequently been disappointed with so many restaurants who profess to be able to offer high quality cuisine from that part of the world in London. Astonishingly, the solution to ALL my cravings now exists fairly close to where I live... in Crouch Hill no less! Make no mistake! Il Piccolo Diavolo is the real thing! With the charm and friendliness of one of the very best establishments of this type I have found in Italy - (and I am a frequent traveller to that country) - this small, homely, candle-lit intimate little goldmine has it all. If you're anywhere near... GO THERE! Wholeheartedly recommended!!

I recently set up my new business just around the corner from this divine little Italian restaurant and I cannot believe my luck! Whether it's for a sublime cappuccino and slice of devilishly naughty homemade cake, for a relaxed and wholesome lunch or a candlelit meal with friends, this is the real deal: authentic, freshly prepared, Italian home cooking in the warm and friendly atmosphere created by the lovely owners and staff. It's a little slice of Rome in the vibrant heart of Crouch Hill - and a real hidden gem. I (and various friends and family) have tried their homemade pasta, risotto, lasagna, soup, melanzane parmigiana, cake and tiramisu and I defy anyone to find a better version of any of those dishes anywhere in London! (Which probably explains why so many of their customers are native Italian). I've paid 4 times more in celebrated West End Italian restaurants, and not eaten so well. So, transport yourself to the heart of Rome, just at the start of Crouch Hill. Highly recommended!

Went here last night. The food and wine were excellent. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The whole experience was just lovely. It is a simply set up venue but definitely to be highly recommended. It was very quite perhaps because it was mid week. Do go and support them. Joseph

This local restaurant has really added something to the parade of shops at the bottom of Crouch Hill, and we enjoyed a delicious meal there recently. It's an Italian restaurant with a talented and authentic team of Italian chefs. They do a wide range of pizzas and pastas, as well as other main courses and starters. Even better, they have a large and reasonably priced selection of home made cakes. I often go there just for the cake, but I can't recommend the rest of the food more highly. It's the perfect place for a relaxing week night meal out, and it's good value for money too.

This local is just across the road from us. There have been many little restaurants that have come and cooked and gone. This one looks like it just might be around for a while. The owner is from Rome and seems to know what he is doing. It's a limited menu but that for me is always a food sign. The food was fresh, and the Parmesan freshly grated. Simple but tasty. Will definitely be going again. Oh and we got lemon cello on the house. Nice touch.
