Jungle Braai reviews

By Zahid K.

£6 a burger in east London with hardly any chicken in it but off course stuffed with lots of onion rings from Icelands.

By Nick G.

If you give it 4 or 5 out of 5 normally, where are you reviews giving it that, whats with all the negativity?

By Abul K.

Normally 5 out of 5 times I have been I would give it a 4 or 5 stars. And is one of my favourite places in Brick Lane and most of the E1 location and there are a LOT of choices. Previously the manager (owner?) has always been polite and the staff attentive and the food great. They have always given 10% discount as well which made me come back and tell my friends. Howver , went today and had to use the toilet first. It looked horendous. It was like a underground cellar and no thought given to it, dingy and frankly demoralising. Anyway we were seated in a very tight table so decided to move up. The place was empty. We were told we can't sit at this table because its a table for 6. The place was empty. So we moved again. By the way even after we had finished and left nobody came in and the place was still empty. I really didn't appreciate the unnecessary moving. Ordered the chicken which was pretty good. Slightly more expensive than couple of other places but less than nandos. The actual service that we received seemed ambivalent considering we were one of the few people there. You would think the staff would check if everything was OK etc. But anyway at the end of the meal we were not offered any further discount that we have grown accustomed to but given a card and told to come back next time for it. Well after that experience unfortunately Jungle Braii has gone down my pecking order of places to go in east London. Which is a real shame as it was one of the first places I would suggest to go to. Sorry to see it come to this.

Best lamb chops ever mate

I'm telling you guys, everything was amazing from service to food to mocktails. Everything. If you want my advice try the lamb chops, they are spontaniously good. The only negative critic I would give is they don't accept cards, cash only but it isn't their fault as the guy explained. They will accept cards soon I've been told. Definitely going here again.

Damn good food

I am South African as well the food was delicious service is slow but good things come those who wait and to all the South African haters if you want Spur go home

Recommend the steak, prayer facilities available and good staff service.

i went to eat there with my friends last week we were seated straight away. Its not very fancy looking (brick lane) but the food tasted delicious. i ordered a chicken steak with chips which came sizzling and was a big portion size the chicken was massive. They also have a washroom and prayer facilities which i think is not highlighted enough. Our food came right at prayer time and the head chef or manager (couldnt really tell) brought us some extra steak sauce when we returned from prayer so our food stays warm and juicy. They also brought a highchair for the baby but we didnt require it. overall the staff was really patient with us, kind and took extra care and kept asking if we needed anything and making sure we were happy. The restaurant was also quite full but this didn't really affect the food or service.I would say the only downside is that they dont have a card machine for payment which can be inconvenient for people going there for the first time or like me that tends to forget but there is a ATM nearby so its fine if you are with a group of people.

Being South African, I decided to take some work colleagues to this place for lunch. We were not in that shop for more than 2 min before I left. I can only iterate the comments left by sfsdf0 on 14 Jan. This place in no way represents anything like a South African Braai. Reading their "About Us" section on their website its clear they have no idea what the word Braai even means, it just sounds like a bad joke.

Dined in Jungle Braai maybe 5 times already, everything I've ordered I've been very happy with. Whatever I've had so far (Salad with strips of chicken, Beef Steak and the mixed chicken grill buffet) has been full of flavour and delicious. Amazing value for money. Amazing customer service, the staff are very nice and welcoming. Will definitely keep visiting.

As a South African, this place is an embarrassment to South African cuisine and the experience of South African dining! It's nothing more than glorified cheap kebab shop food.I ordered the Braai Chicken Burger which was advertised as coming with a slice of cheese, fresh salad and onion rings. What I got was a thin chicken breast in the cheapest of white sesame seed rolls, a slice of yellow processed cheese and some standard kebab burger sauce!? NO ONION RINGS OR SALAD!? A bare plate with just a sorry burger! As I was on a business lunch and pressed for time I just ate it, paid the £4.95 bill and left. The utter lack of effort left me not even wanting to complain. Now that's saying something.Avoid at all costs unless you're looking for cheap kebab shop type food. NOT SOUTH AFRICAN IN THE SLIGHTEST except for a few South African words on the menu but that's where the South African experience ends!

Slam everyone, We went to Jungle Braai Osborn Street first time and i must say it was delicious food. Food was good cooked and service was good also. not very much happy from the furniture stuff but still ok. I would recommend everyone to visit the Osborn street Jungle Braai and you would like the food. I am decided to eat there atleast once in a month with my family there.

A group of 7 ( + 2 babies) visited here in brick lane last week and I must say we will most definitely be visiting again inshallah! Lovely staff, great environment and scrumptious food served swiftly and piping hot with great sides (especially the spicy rice!!). We ordered 3 of the Tarzan platters and we loved them! This is such a great place that if you are in the area make sure you pay a visit, you will never forget it!

This is the second time we have visited Walthamstow branch. It is a very long drive for us to eat at this restaurant the drive there and back takes us an entire day. Ofcourse we would not make all the efforts if the food was not well worth it. We ordered the braai platter and everything on it is mimicked to true South Africa standard. What is more is that it is all halaal. If I lived closer it would be a once a week treat for me definatley. The meat is basted with yummy monkey gland sauce... it taste like steers... Only thing is that the restaurant is cold , the heating needs upgrading. There should be more desert choice.. not just 2 cakes. BUt truelly tasted like a braai from back home, well done! very impressed.

Ate here with my wife and family last week of Ramadan. Booked a table for iftari. Excellent service on arrival, told straight away there might b slight delay with food order as it was very busy. No problems at least we were told. Ordered 2 t bone steaks 1 for me and the eldest, 1 lamb burger for the wife 1 chicken burger for for the youngest. On the table was some water fruit and dates, waiter came round to let us know it was time to open our fast, had a small prayer room downstairs what a bonus, came back up food took about 5 mins after prayers, when it arrived wow, the portions were very good and not only that they tasted excellent with these special African sauce. We found the ambience was right the air conditioning was on, there was never a moment we felt we were just another number. On paying the bill when leaving our 2 boys managed to get a free bottle of alcohol free drink each, one was a blue colour the other was like a lemon colour. Would i eat here again most certainly would and for a family of 4 with huge meals side orders and drink 60£ is a real good price.

Went to the Osborn street white chapel branch today for iftari .. Where do I start , let's start with me finding a hair in my steak , thought minor it happen , I cut my second piece and guess what I found another hair Then my husband finds the third hair in the wings! Piss take , after traveling for an hour just to get there and a long day of fasting Left with an empty stomach! That place shouldn't be called jungle braai it should be called hair jungle! !

Booked a table for 6 last sunday, the manager was extremely pleasant and also provided a baby high chair for my 1 year old. The best thing about coming out to eat is the customer experience, we we welcomed and shown to our table, immediately the man that looked like the boss gave us the menus and informed us that he would be back in several minutes to check if we were ready to order. As I was not that hungry we decided to go for the burgers. I had the Zulu lamb burger which was made from fresh lamb meat not like the usual processed burger you get in other restaurants. My husband had the Zulu Beef burger and could not praise it enough, these Zulu burgers are not processed and contain 230g of pure beef, its actually mouth watering, with peri peri chips its the best side. My parents were happy with what ever we would recommend the wings, chops, fritters with the special fritter sauce which was absolutely tasty was our choice of starters. They were fresh of the grill and extremely hot into the plates. If you don't mind ginger then definitely try the ZOBO drink it is then best on the menu. If you are actually hungry then go for the steak with grilled vegetables, if you fancy chicken then go for the whole chicken peri peri chips and jungle salad. My dad had the steak and mum had the chicken as for my baby had a bit of everything from everyone. Overall the service was on point, the food was hot, and the price was competitive.

I visited Jungle Braai with my friends. It was our first time there and the food was really good and reasonably priced. All of us were impressed. The decoration was traditional African. The service was fantastic, however it was extraordinary crowded and we had to wait 15 minutes to get the table but it was worth it. I strongly recommend Jungle Braai if you want tasty and fresh food. We planned to go there again soon with some other friends.

I went there on a Saturday evening 17th November with two friends. We ordered the wings for starters which wasnt all that, and the Kenyan prawn salad which we found a piece of short greyish black hair. Was not happy about this.. Had the Zulu lamb Berger, after a couple of bites its a bit sickly, the steak chips were ok. The manager did give us 10% discount, but I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

By Helal K.

Visited Jungle Braai on Saturday with a group of friends of 15 but had initially booked for 20 (although 5 didnt turn up!). The manager (later found out his called Usman) was very accomodating and kept us the tables for 15 even though we turned up upto an hour late in dribs n drabs! The place was busy that evening too! Once we had all arrived our orders were taken and soon our food started to arrive. A reasonable wait given our large order and how busy they were. The food was very nice and this was of equal opinion of the rest of the group. Overall good food, good service and a wonderful evening out with friends. Would Happily do this all over again. Helal.

The food is excellent with such a wide variety to choose from. We returned almost every day for unch or dinner along with taking our friends along to try, which no one has ever been disappointed. If you have been to East London before you will be aware that there are hundreds of places to eat, i would recommend here, you will not be disappointed. Great food which is hassle free, the staff keep their distance but at the same time they are really friendly and not pushy or annoying like most of the others. The food is excellent and also reasonably priced; you pay for what you get. I would definitely recommend this restaurant Had an amazing time

Excellent service an food is always cooked to perfection. If your in the area its one place I would recomend.

Love this place!! On one visit to London I ate there 2 nights in a row and I may have driven from Oxord to London just to eat here ;) The food is great, with something from everyone from the simple chicken to meat lovers who demand a big steak. Must have is the gorgeously buttery roast potatoes mmmnn. Writing this post is teasing my taste buds already (I need a trip to London really soon!!). The decor, although different to my other London favourites such as Ladurée is very fitting and enjoyable. A gem located in a lively area, highly recomended for all.

Im from blackburn and i took a trip down with my family to london and was looking for somwhere to eat,so we saw jungle braai it had a very nice african decoration type thing and looked very cosy so we decided to eat there. We ordered and the owner was very nice but he could have wore a uniform rather than his normal clothes, whilst we were waiting for our food their was a tv inside to keep us occupied which was very nice. After a while our food came and i found the burgers were absoloutely amazing id recomend evryone to try them as i loved them also the chicken and other food that we eat evryone loved them. Jungle braai is a superb place and has fantastic food and we will definately be going back there we will also be telling evryone about jungle braai.

I have been to both branches of this restaurant, once each. I went to the Brick lane one first and absolutely loved the experience. The food was great and the service very polite and nice. It was not too much nosiy and we had a great time. So i invited a friend with his family to the Walthamstow branch. This turned out to be quite a disaster. Full of people with hardly any space to move. The food was still the same, though some of my desired dishes were missing and amazaingly, there was no dessert avaialable. The service was just ok, may be due to the sheer number of people in the restaurant. To top it all, we were asked to leave in not-so-polite words immediately after finished our meal, although we were deliberating to order something more yet. I had book 2 days in advance and i should have been warned that the rush hour means less time to spend together. I am never going back to the Walthamstow branch again.

after hearing masses of positive feedback from friends who have ate here previously - i decided to give this a place a go. in terms of quality of food, atmosphere, service and general overall experience - jungle braai was excellent. yes the seating can be arranged slightly better however that is me really trying to find a fault somewhere. staff are extremely attentive and the food is taste bud tingling (what the secret sauce is - i would love know!). it's only a 2min walk from east aldgate underground and is situated in the vibrant area of brick lane. a must go for steak lovers!!

Whenever my stomach is rumbling; I wander down Osborn Street in Brick Lane; And step into Jungle Braai, the place for munching; Lamb chops, Zulu burgers and Rump steak; I lick all the plates and the chef’s face, Ramu, too; The African delight has an exquisite taste; It’s fresh, filling and won’t make you run to the loo; Well prepared plentiful portions at reasonable rates

By Gunga D.

We've been coming here since opening, but not as often as we would like, perhaps few times a year. It's a little out of the way for us. The service is always friendly, and wonderful - they are really sweet. The food is excellent, we particularly like the platter and the boerewors, it's a bargain. Once, we had to plead with them to stop serving us with little treats, we were too full and didn't want to waste the food. I've seen a couple of poor reviews around, and of course, not every restaurant can get it right every time, but some of these reviews were quite aggressively negative - in response, I can honestly say that we love coming to this restaurant for the food, the service, the decor is great and the restaurant is clean, which is apparently critical to some. It's delicious, just get yourself down there !

Further to my post above, I managed to speak to the owner of the premises on the phone who appeared to be a very sincere gentleman who listened to my complaints and dealt with them in a very mature and professional manner. I do believe his reassurances that the matter will be looked into and I hope that this won't happen again.

By Adil A.

I have never been insulted and spoken to in such a rude manner. I came to Jungle Braai with 10 friends on the evening of Monday 5th December. We are a group of students and young professionals. It was the first time most of us had been there and had heard great things about the food. The food was decent and the staff were mostly pleasant (the kitchen staff and waiters were lovely). However, the Manager and/or owner (who was most definitely in charge) was outrageously rude. When are food arrived, I specifically asked him to inform us what was what. He incorrectly confused two of the platters. As soon as we realised the mistake, we informed him. A first he denied there had been a mistake. Eventually, he started pointing at our food and in the most patronising tone he said, "Do you know what chicken wings look like? Do you know what steak is?" My friends and I tried to diffuse the situation but he became increasingly aggressive and began to raise his voice. At this point, when I asked him if he should be speaking to a customer in this way, he replied by saying "For you, yes I should". We were calm and not looking to cause a fight. When we went to speak to him, he told us to get back because "For all I know you could be trying to steal my money from the cash register". I could not believe that a manager did not have even basic etiquette. Unfortunately I have been very disappointed and will not be returning and nor will most of my friends unless we receive an explanation. It was shocking behaviour and tainted what would've.otherwise.been a great experience.

Dear nnad Your complaint that you did not get pork ribs at this halal restaurant is simply laughable! I suppose you will now go to a kosher restaurant for breakfast and demand to know why they do not serve bacon with their eggs!

By Salim M.

Just a quick note of appreciation to the boys at jungle braai, went there last week with my family and was looked after superbly. The food was quite wonderful, we enjoy steaks at home, but the lamb fillet steak and sauce was something quite unique. The kids were catered for nicely, the chefs made a delicious marinade for the wings, without too much spice. Service was nice, no hovering waiters, attentative when called. Thanks again for a special evening.

I placed an order, for delivery, from the Jungle Braai's Wood Street restaurant for the first time last night and was very impressed with the food. The chips were perfect, the pizza very well made and excellent value for money, better than Pizza Hut and Domino's. We will definitely be dining with them again!!

By N N.

I was looking forward to a tasty BBQ meal like I used to have back home in South Africa at a braai - the Jungle Braai web site tells a story of wondrous travel, culinary delights and years of training - a nice tale but the food couldn't be further from the truth! My chicken burger had barely any flavour, which was then coated with a slice of processed cheese and drowned in mayo - is this the recipe taught by the "Wise Chief of the Mbtumbu Tribe"?.....may be there's a Tesco Metro in the "deepest jungle of Mother Africa" where he bought cheese slices and mayo, Lol. And the lamb ribs are disgusting - full of fat - There's a reason why ribs served all over the world are pork - because they taste better. If you can't serve pork then don't offer ribs. I suppose there was one good choice - the chips; they were golden, crispy and fluffy - a typical dish served at every braai! Jungle Braai is an insult to the South African braai. Its as authentic as a Rolex from Thailand. Seriously, shop around and find some good dry rub and make your own BBQ and you will be closer to a South African braai than these fraudsters.

By Azz P.

Excellent steak, very tender. The zulu beef burger was a big hit for me! Dined with a friend from South Africa who was also very impressed with the standard. A Aziz

By Usman P.

Jungle Braai does not use BBq sauce ! All marinades are home made without BBq sauce and made with original South African ingredients. There is no lemon and garlic king prawn dish on the menu ! There is no mention of Garlic on the menu on any dish ! I stress we do not use BBq sauce or Garlic. Read the other reviews, 99% customers are licking their fingers and enjoyed the customer experience. That's incredibly impressive ! Finally, the Manager did say sorry for the confusion and tried to calm down the situation but you refused to accept his humble apology and shouted him down, shame on you !

By S A.

If u love barbq sauce this is the place for you, however i loathe barbq sauce which is the base for their marinade on absoluteli every dish hence my eating experience was ruined by this one ingriedient. When i approached the manager for clarification on why their is barbq sauce drizzled all over my lemon and garlic king prawn dish, i was given a rude and abrubt response "this is braii dont you know what braii is" repeated several times And this was my first and last experience!
