La Mexicana reviews

By Natalie A.

Terrible service! Terrible slop! Terrible gut rot! I have never been made to feel less welcome when walking into a restaurant as I was when I walked into La Mexicana in Enfield Town. The surly attitude and arrogance of the three waiters and owners preceded the most measily portioned and expensive Mexican slop I have ever had to endure! The place lacks a genuine atmosphere and the toilets lack anything to dry your hands with. This last point is important as before you leave you are likely to need the toilet, if as with me the gut rot sets in before the overpriced bill is produced. The food lacked any real flavour and the portions were tiny for the money ( £14 for 4 fajita pancakes and tray of chicken slop and dollops of pre packed cheese, guacamole and sour cream is extortionate in Enfield) The waiters slam your food down and can barely muster common courtesy as if your presence is an inconvenience to them. They are surly, unhelpful and full of arrogance and as the place was half empty on the busiest night of the week I fear La Mexicana may not be in business for too much longer. I have lived in Enfield all my life and eaten in all of its restaurants but never have I been compelled to write a review warning others to avoid such a poor restaurant experience on every level. Avoid La Mexicana at all costs or pay with toilet time!

first time visit to this restaurant, with my partner and our child, service was more than good, as we were always attended too throughout our whole meal, I ordered the chicken fajitas and they arrived sizzling on a plate, my wife ordered the Caesar salad, and had no qualms at all, mine was undoubtedly one of the best fajitas I've experienced for a long time, and would strongly recommend anyone to go here as its more authentic than a franchise like chimichangas or nandos etc.....more than happy

I love Mexican food and this restaurant never fails to disappoint. Food is always cooked fresh to order and comes sizzling to your table. A bonus is that the menu is very child friendly and my kids love eating here. The cocktails are fantastic and the service is second to none. I never leave this place disappointed and is equally good for dining out with kids or a night out with the girls.

Went here for meal on New Year's Eve tonight. Ordered the Peri-Peri Prawn salad which was describe as 'Fiesta house salad, as above... with prawn skewer'. Above, the Fiesta Salad was described as having pickled cactus leaves. Prawn salad came; didn't have the cactus leaves. When I asked the waitress about it I was told condescendingly by the older man, possibly the manager, that I had misunderstood the menu, the Prawn salad "is not supposed to have cactus" and its description was "just a saying, so we don't have to write out every single ingredient". I asked why it was 'Fiesta salad, as above' rather than just 'salad', and he then even said "It's just a typo" When asked if they would bring out some cactus leaves separately, the man then said, "we don't even have cactus today anyway, and you would have found out if you ordered the Fiesta salad." To sum up it might have been forgivable if he had just apologised immediately but instead tried to make it out it was in fact my fault. There is no way the £10.95 price tag of the prawn salad is justified unless it contains something special which should have been the cactus leaves. Other than that it's practically a bowl full of lettuce. Infuriating and disappointing. We will not be going back there ever again.
