The Bucks Head reviews

By Claire L.

The Bucks Head is located in the midst of one of the busiest parts of Camden. Its upbeat atmosphere and well-priced food and drink make it an attractive proposition for both tourists and locals alike.

The Venue
There’s nothing that impressive about the exterior of The Bucks Head, although the white building appears fresh and welcoming. Located amidst the shops, markets and general hubbub of Camden means it’s always thriving with locals and passing trade. The interior is classic. The pub is decked out with clean wooden floors, comfortable leather sofas, tables and chairs within a large bar area. The place is spacious and friendly, in the evening it’s well lit so you won’t end up squinting in the darkness at the menu.

The Atmosphere
Pubs in and around Camden tend to fall into one of three categories: rock joints filled with indie types offering a certain grubby charm, traditional old man pubs, or cool bars that attract the celebrities and trendsetters of the area. However, The Bucks Head avoids all of the cliches, almost to the point of being slightly characterless. This is a pub that’s open to all and doesn’t seek out any specific demographic.

The staff are reasonably friendly - they don’t go out of their way to chat but they will raise a smile if you make the effort. The atmosphere in general is quite youthful, very open and pretty relaxed.

The Food
The food at The Bucks Head is your typical pub grub. If you can’t be bothered to seek out one of the many eateries in the area, it doesn’t hurt to grab a bowl of chips (£1.95) or a classic burger (£6.95). You can eat reasonably well here for under a tenner.

The Drink
The choice of alcohol on offer is impressive, especially their choice of draught - Fosters, Kronenbourg, Amstel, Peroni, Heineken, Strongbow, Bombardier, John Smiths, Guinness and London Pride are all available with prices starting at just £3.25. If you’re after a small house white wine a decent glass comes in at £3.50. A gin and tonic here is £4, which isn’t bad for Camden.

The Last Word
The Bucks Head benefits from its location. It’s a decent pub with a good atmosphere and is worth a visit if you happen past.
