I've walked past The Old Frizzle nearly every day since it opened last year, and finally paid a visit for the first time this weekend. I can't believe I waited so long, this place is an absolute gem! When you walk past the window early evening, it seems to be just your run of the meal Wimbledon restaurant with quite a nice decor, but once inside you immediately realise there is so much more to this place than the dining area at the front. The venue actually reaches back pretty far, and there is a beautiful, plush lounge area behind the front restaurant that you can’t see from the outside. The huge bar that curves all the way around from the dining area and into the lounge so there is plenty of space to wait for your drinks, and the bar staff are pleasant and helpful.
The food is also a massive plus point for this place; it is quite a small menu, but the quality is fantastic. I had the homemade 3 cheese Mac n Cheese with pancetta and Ratatouille and it was incredible! The nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, I can’t wait to try it again. Another great thing about this place is that it has different events going on all the time. We went on a Saturday which meant there was a live band playing, and they weren’t bad at all. I would maybe suggest having the volume a little lower in the dining area though.
We were running a little late for our booking, but when we arrived they were very accommodating, even moving us to a better table than the one we had reserved which was very kind considering we were late and they could have given our table away (it was pretty busy).
This is a great little place with good staff, a great atmosphere and amazing food! It’s not the cheapest bar in Wimbledon, but it’s certainly better than the boring and stale dodgy DJ, lycra, chav and attitude filled bars that are more common around the Broadway and town centre,. I can’t wait for my next visit!
