Warwick Arms reviews

By Andrew M.

With champagne bottles around the windows and some choice memorabilia on the walls, the Warwick Arms is a pub staking a claim for a rather refined clientele. No sign of them on our visit, nor of anyone else for that matter. We'd like to think they were dissuaded from stopping in by the Mariah Carey CD on rotation, as everything else seemed pretty decent. I've heard Warwick Arms serves a good dashing of Indian food as well.

The Warwick Arms is a fine example of a Fuller’s pub getting it right.

The Venue
The Warwick Arms is a very cosy, well-presented pub that has kept it traditional without veering into being boring. From the heavy wooden-panelled corner bar to the chesterfield sofas nestled around open fires, it’s the kind of place you can really sink into for an entire evening. Everywhere you look there are knick-knacks and cute ornamental features and the pub veers away from the neutral look, instead opting for peach walls and green touches that work well with the bold red and green bar stools. And there are plenty in the way of simple dining tables and chairs for anyone looking to make the most of their menu.

The Atmosphere
The Warwick Arm’s cosy setting lends itself to a comfortable and easy night out. This is the kind of place you can imagine snuggling into on a cold winter’s evening and not leaving until you’ve worked your way through all of the Fuller’s ales on tap. And that’s easy to do here as the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their beer and will happily offer recommendations and allow you to taste any you’re not sure of before ordering.

The Food
Unlike some Fuller’s pubs, the Warwick Arms has gone specialist, with a full Indian menu prepared by their award-winning chef, Ram Singh. And the choice is large and very impressive for a pub like this, veering away from the same old, same old kormas and tikka masalas (although you can order these, too), and instead pushing the boundaries with options like tandoori specialities, mutler and goshi curries or hot biryanis, all well priced at under £7 for a main dish.

The Drink
Being a Fuller’s pub, the ales on offer are exclusively their own brewery beers, although they have some of their better brews and the beer is very well-kept. London Pride and ESB seem to rule the roost here and they mix it up with changing guest ales. They also do some interesting drinks offers and every Wednesday you can play Beat The Dice - throw two sixes and the bar will pay for your drinks!

The Last Word
The Warwick Arms is a great example of a pub making a real effort and thriving as a result.
