Please write a minimum of 50 charactersA group of 3 of us visited Yami for lunch on Saturday. On entering the restaurant, it was busy and we were told a 5-10 minute wait. We chose to wait. Behind us was a small queue - all Koreans. When the first table became available, the 2 Koreans behind us were given the table saying that they have a reservation. We waited a further 10 minutes for the next table. Next table came available and we were told this was our table. As we headed over, suddenly another couple from the queue sat themselves down. Again saying they had a reservation. when we questioned this, the staff all looked at each other and said it was "reserved". In summary this place gives Koreans priority over westerners. There are also "hidden" seats at the back where western customers are not allowed to sit. I am appalled at the level of discrimination.

Not too sure if the fist reviewer has the faintest understanding of the difficulties of opening a restaurant or not but whatever the case don't be put off by this. The staff speak perfect english, the service is flawless and the food is now my new favourite in new malden. Its also fantastic value for money. Have the seafood pancake, best thing I've had in my mouth. neil

It looks like the poor experience of the previous viewer was a teething problem for a new restaurant, because Yami is something really quite special. We've eaten a number of New Malden's restaurants, but we've been back to Yami twice in as many weeks. The seafood pancake is the winner for me,but the BBQ Brisket End and rice cakes are also divine. Highly recommend it and will certainly be back for more.

Went here today with my family for lunch. It was the worst experience I have ever had. My family and I are familiar with Korean BBQ and hence coming here, I knew what I should've been expecting. But what we received was far from good. Having flicked through the menu and chosen our BBQ dishes, udon and rice we waited a long 30-40 minutes before any food that was ours was served. It was such a ridiculous time scale to have to wait for a few dishes of raw meat especially. We were wondering what was taking them so long. When we saw the table behind us receive their food before us despite arriving after, we were somewhat close to furious. Finally when our beef bulbogi arrived, it was far from what we expected. Having experienced first hand beef bulgogi in Seoul, Korea, we expected raw beef slices on a plate, instead we received raw beef swamped in some sort of "sauce" topped with vegetables. Then before we knew it, they removed our grill plate and put the dish on the fire. We were very confused as this is not the normal beef bulgogi that is usually served. Then they brought out the "1 portion" of chicken and pork which turned out to be already cooked!! To make matters worse it was stir fried and there was only 4 tiny pieces of chicken in the chicken dish with a ton of vegetables for £8. It was just such a disappointing experience to have of Korean BBQ. The staff were apologetic and made excuses such as the restaurant had just opened and everyone is new, furthermore they could hardly speak English which made communication very difficult.
