Grinch Wine Bar reviews

By Sarah L.

If you want a cheap pizza and a cocktail after work, The Grinch is the place for you. Stylish dining with quick service, The Grinch is a great eating establishment in Manchester city centre.

The Venue
Just off Corporation Street, and slightly hidden away on Chapel Walk, is The Grinch. You’re first drawn to the spacious outdoor eating area at the front of the building and, on a sunny day, this is a nice spot to sit. Inside, the bar is smart in appearance with sophisticated decor. Quirky additions to this are the main menus printed on large brown envelopes and old school Hollywood pin-ups on the back of every cocktail list.

The People
The Grinch is good for after-work drinks and you will find groups of nearby office workers, young professionals and older business folk enjoying a bite to eat and a glass of wine. The staff are attentive and the service is quick. And, on Saturday nights, there’s live soul and jazz music to keep you entertained while you wine and dine.

The Food
You can nibble on olives, brochettes and nachos or more hefty options like Thai chicken curry or Moroccan lamb. At lunchtime you can get a range of sandwiches and soups. But it’s the pizzas that steal the show. Stone baked with plenty of topping; the pizzas are the size of small countries. The Oriental is particulary tasty mixing shredded duck, plum sauce, cucumber slithers, spring onions and mozzarella. And during happy hour, between 5-7pm every day, you can get one of these massive pizzas for just £6. If that’s not enough to fill you up, they also do a range of puddings from £4.25.

The Drink
On draught you can get a pint of Amstel, Heineken, Old Speckled Hen or Guinness. Bottled beers include Peroni, Asahi and Cusquena (from £3.10). The wine list is impressive with a good selection of Italian, Chilean and Australian reds and whites. In addition there is a varied cocktail list and during happy hour all cocktails are £3.95. They also serve a range of coffees from frozen mochas to your regular lattes and cappuccinos.

The Last Word
The Grinch is a perfect place to tuck into a cheap pizza and cocktails, either after work, before you hit the theatre, or mid shopping spree.
