I love the Cottage Balti! It's is my local Balti house - but even if it wasn't I would rather travel to it that go somewhere else (how lucky am I?).
It's consistently good, fresh tasting food (where the curries taste different to each other - not all the basic same sauce with few added extras); has a varied menu with lots of different flavours (Jeera, dopiaza, rogan josh, jalfrezi, Masali, Karahi, Zarl, Bhindi, Methi, Madras, Malayan, Sri Lankan, Patia, Vindaloo, Kashmiri, Dansak amongst others I can't remember off the top of my head...) to choose from and the staff are friendly and efficient - without being obtrusive.
I really rate the Lamb (or chicken) Rogan Josh and the Saag Paneer. My boyfriend really likes the Prawn puri starter, Lamb Jeera and house specials Shamba Chicken. Also, the Cheese & Chilli Naan is excellent (though can blow your head off if you chomp on a hot bit).
They serve Kingfisher and Cobra indian lager on tap.
I don't 'do' kids, I've seen them be lovely and friendly/accommodating with customers' kids.
The decor is light and clean - but basic.
They do take-away and deliver in the near area.
It can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights - so I would book, but you won't need to during the week.
There's plenty of street parking nearby - though I would avoid parking on High Road itself as it gets busy and spaces is tight.
It's on a excellently serviced bus route from Derby/Chilwell direction to Nottingham anyway, so no excuse to not leave the car at home.
I would (and am!) heartily recommend them as we've been going for years. We have tried other places in Beeston, but always come back to Cottage Balti.
